Aircraft Drop Retardant Over Colorado Homes As Wildfire Threatens Communities

Live footage shows intense aerial firefighting operations as aircraft work to protect homes and structures from advancing wildfire activity.

Multiple aircraft fly in sequence over residential areas, releasing bright red retardant drops to create protective barriers. The video captures planes and helicopters making repeated passes as part of a coordinated effort to defend properties from the fast-moving fire.

Residents and emergency personnel are visible in the area while smoke and fire activity remain nearby.

The Aspen Acres / Willow Fire complex, affecting Custer and Fremont Counties, continued pushing into the Wetmore area, leading to heavy air support with retardant drops over homes and infrastructure.

Significant activity was reported south of Highway 96, with crews cutting wide fire breaks and carrying out protective measures. Highway 67 was closed to southbound traffic, while mutual aid from departments as far as Colorado Springs responded.

Evacuations, damage assessments, and community meetings continued along the Highway 165 corridor.

The footage highlights the critical role of aerial resources in defending communities during rapid wildfire growth in the region.
