Adam Hamawy Claims Democratic Nomination In New Jersey Primary

Video filmed by X user Cory Archibald shows supporters celebrating inside Adam Hamawy’s campaign headquarters after his victory in the Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District was declared on the evening of June 2, 2026.

The accompanying post announced that victory had been declared for Hamawy, capturing the immediate reaction inside campaign headquarters.

The footage shows an enthusiastic crowd cheering, applauding and celebrating in a lively indoor setting. The scene reflects the energy of a hard-fought primary contest in a crowded field of 12 candidates and the relief that followed confirmation of Hamawy’s projected win.

Hamawy, a Princeton-based plastic and reconstructive surgeon and U.S. Army combat veteran, secured the Democratic nomination to succeed retiring Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman.

The progressive candidate, backed by Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other members of the Squad, emerged as the frontrunner and won the nomination with strong support from the left.

He is set to face Republican Gregg Mele in the November general election.

The victory has also attracted scrutiny because of Hamawy’s volunteer work during the 1990s with the Benevolence International Foundation, a group later designated for providing support to al-Qaeda, and his connections to Omar Abdel-Rahman, known as the Blind Sheikh, the radical cleric convicted in connection with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Hamawy has maintained that he was never involved in any illegal activity.
