500-Meter Plume Rises From Mayon Volcano As Kanlaon Sends Fresh Ash Into The Sky
Mayon Volcano produced minor Strombolian activity on October 11, 2026, sending a plume 500 meters above its summit crater, while Kanlaon Volcano emitted a separate ash plume the following morning.
Thermal and visual monitoring cameras captured Mayon’s activity at 3:18 a.m. on October 11. Incandescent material was visible in the thermal footage as the plume drifted west-northwest, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
On October 12, at 5:45 a.m., a light-colored ash plume rose 300 meters above Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island and drifted northwest. The emission was recorded by the Canlaon City Observation Station.
Kanlaon’s latest emission followed a moderately explosive eruption on October 10 that sent ash several kilometers into the sky and caused light ashfall and a sulfur odor in parts of Negros Occidental.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect at both volcanoes. Entry into Mayon’s 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone remains prohibited.
