5 Workers And 3,300 Pigs Rescued As Fire Engulfs Spanish Farm
Five workers and approximately 3,300 pigs were rescued after a fire broke out at a pig farm in Benaguasil, Valencia, on 12 October. No injuries or animal deaths were reported, although the farm suffered serious material damage.
The fire at a facility along the Camino Viejo de Vilamarxant generated a large cloud of smoke visible from several kilometres away. Civil Guard officers and local police entered the premises to help the five workers escape. All five made it out unharmed.
Once the workers were safe, officers helped move the pigs to safer areas of the farm to protect them from the flames and smoke. All the animals were successfully evacuated.
Officers also removed several propane cylinders from an area near the fire to reduce the risk of an explosion. Nearby residents helped contain the flames using hoses from neighbouring properties.
Around 12 firefighters from stations in Paterna, L’Eliana and Catarroja took part in the operation and eventually extinguished the blaze.
