Rescue Divers Free Seagull Trapped Underwater by Fishing Lure in Melilla Bay

Melilla, Spain – Guardia Civil rescue divers freed a seagull that was trapped by fishing gear with its head under water in the bay of Melilla.

Footage released by the Guardia Civil shows an officer reaching from a rescue boat to lift the gull out of the sea. Officers then carefully remove a large fishing lure and its hooks from the bird before it flies off over the water.

Officers from the Swimming, Intervention and Rescue Team of the Melilla command helped the bird, which had its head submerged and was at imminent risk of drowning, the Guardia Civil said.
