Lightner Creek Bursts Its Banks and Floods Cars as US 160 Goes Underwater Near Durango
Durango, United States – Lightner Creek burst its banks and poured across US Highway 160 west of Durango, Colorado, flooding a neighbourhood and surrounding parked cars with brown water.
X user feyderade filmed the floodwater spreading across a parking area on Sunday, November 1, with cars standing in the fast-moving current and water stretching between the trees.
"Some serious flooding going on in SW Colorado. That is US 160, underwater. Lightner Creek has topped her banks and is flowing across the highway, into my neighborhood," the filmer wrote. "Our house is 20-30 feet higher than the creek. We're fine. Some of our neighbors are not though."
Heavy rain triggered historic flooding across southwest Colorado over the weekend, closing long stretches of US 160 and damaging roads and bridges across the region.
