Video filmed by Naturaleza Castilla y León shows conservation teams releasing a radio-tagged Spanish Imperial Eagle back into the wild after six months of intensive recovery.

The bird had been rescued with a fractured ulna in its wing and underwent surgery, medical treatment, and rehabilitation at wildlife recovery centers in Segovia and Valladolid. The release was carried out carefully, with handlers holding the eagle steady before letting it launch into the air.

Once released, the eagle spreads its wings and takes flight over the landscape. A small radio transmitter can be seen attached to its back, allowing continued monitoring of the animal after its return to the wild.

“Six months later we have released a radio-tagged Spanish Imperial Eagle in Segovia, where it was taken in with a fractured ulna. Surgeries, treatment and rehabilitation by the staff involved in its recovery, from wildlife agents to the CRAS centers of Segovia and Valladolid.”

The moment captures the result of coordinated conservation work by veterinarians, wildlife technicians, and environmental agents involved in the eagle’s recovery process. A photo shared with the footage also shows the bird during or after the release.

The Spanish Imperial Eagle is among the most threatened birds of prey in Europe. Castilla y León, especially the province of Segovia, plays an important role in its protection through rehabilitation programs and population monitoring of injured birds.
