Bull Elk Marches His Massive Harem Across Busy Colorado Street

A large bull elk leads his harem of cow elk across a busy multi-lane road as vehicles and trucks slow or stop to yield.

Video filmed by X user Mike.Rlog shows the elk moving steadily across the asphalt, with Rocky Mountain National Park peaks in the background. The group passes traffic lights, road signs and sidewalks under a bright sky with scattered clouds.

Drivers remain patient while the elk cross the road and continue toward the roadside.

The video was filmed on September 14, 2026, during the annual elk rut. During the mid-September rut, large numbers of elk regularly move from nearby mountains into Estes Park streets, sidewalks and crosswalks, frequently disrupting traffic as they travel through town.

Replies to the video described the crossing as completely normal and routine in Estes Park. One user wrote, “In Estes they call that Tuesday,” while another called it typical for the tourist area.
