Artillery Rocks Guatemala Square As 21-Gun Salute Fills The Air
Soldiers fired multiple artillery howitzers during a formal 21-gun salute honoring the 205th anniversary of Guatemala’s Independence.
Crews loaded and fired the cannons in sequence during the ceremony, sending powerful blasts across the crowded public plaza. Thick clouds of blue-white smoke spread across the pavement as each gun recoiled.
Soldiers signaled with outstretched arms while spectators watched from behind barriers, with flags, trees and city buildings surrounding the ceremony.
The 21 Salvas de Artillería was held on September 16 as part of patriotic month celebrations. The Army described the ceremony as a solemn act exalting national pride.
