35 Baby Snapping Turtles Released Into Pond After Hatching At Wildlife Center
Thirty-five baby snapping turtles returned to the wild after spending about three and a half months safely incubating at the Center for Wildlife.
A snapping turtle had laid her eggs at the Wells Recreation Department playground on June 11, but the busy location was considered unsafe for the nest.
Wells Animal Control Officer Ashley Slater and Recreation Department staff carefully collected all 35 eggs along with the sand surrounding them and transported them to the Center for Wildlife.
After approximately three and a half months of monitoring and care, all 35 eggs successfully hatched.
Slater and Recreation Department staff then returned the tiny turtles to a pond, completing their journey from a playground nest to their new home.
