100-Pound Tortoise Attempts World’s Slowest Escape From Colorado Home
A nearly 100-pound tortoise attempts an escape from a fenced yard, but its getaway is quickly stopped by an animal control officer and a helpful bystander.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released footage of the August 31 incident involving Lard, a Sulcata tortoise that wandered away from its home with little apparent urgency.
Lard’s owner was at the scene, but efforts to convince the tortoise to return voluntarily were unsuccessful. Instead of heading home, Lard continued in the opposite direction.
An animal control officer and a bystander eventually teamed up to lift the nearly 100-pound tortoise and carry it back home.
The sheriff’s office described Lard’s attempted getaway as the “world’s slowest escape.”
