Suspect Dives Headfirst Through Closed Window To Escape Oklahoma Deputy
A suspected copper thief escaped an Oklahoma County deputy by diving headfirst through a closed glass window at a vacant home on Sunset Lane on October 1.
Body camera footage released by the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office shows the deputy entering the house with his gun drawn shortly after 6 p.m., responding to a report of a burglary in progress. Inside, the sheriff’s office said, he found the man stealing copper from the home.
The deputy repeatedly ordered the suspect to turn around and get on his knees as the man stood with his hands raised in the kitchen. As the deputy radioed that he had one person at gunpoint, the suspect sprinted across the living room and crashed through the window, shattering the glass.
By the time the deputy got out the front door, the man was gone. “He just bailed out the window, he’s on foot, unknown direction of travel,” the deputy told dispatchers.
The suspect left behind his backpack and driver’s license, according to the sheriff’s office, which identified him as 24-year-old Rayven Lee Wooten of Nicoma Park. Wooten faces charges including burglary, resisting arrest and obstructing an officer.
