A shoplifting suspect told police “I’ll pay for it” after fleeing officers in a foot pursuit outside Macy’s at Cross County Center on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Yonkers Police said Officer Steven Velasquez stopped Michael Silvera, 45, of Mount Vernon, while patrolling the shopping center. Silvera was carrying more than $300 worth of unpaid merchandise when he ran a short distance before being arrested with the items, hangers and security tags still in his possession.

Shortly afterward, Davon Mallory, 25, also of Mount Vernon, left the same store with unpaid merchandise and fled. Velasquez and assisting officers, including Officer Tony Grippo, caught him after a longer pursuit. During the encounter, Mallory told officers, “I’ll pay for it.”

Both men offered to return or pay for the merchandise, police said. Each was charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree.

The department released body-camera footage of the two pursuits on October 9 as part of its “Find Out Friday” series. Police also reported that citywide larcenies were down 8 percent. No further court details were released.
