Runaway Horse Races Through Santa Fe Before Parade As Police And Cowboys Give Chase

A horse escaped while waiting for the Desfile de La Gente parade to begin Sunday, prompting police and professional cowboys to launch a chase through the city.

Santa Fe police deployed motorcycle officers, bicycle officers, animal services officers and drone operators to track the runaway horse.

Professional cowboys also joined the effort as the horse continued through Santa Fe.

Motorcycle officers eventually corralled the horse on Canyon Road, where its owner was able to take the reins.

The owner then trotted the horse back to the parade starting point in time for a quick drink of water before the parade began.

Police thanked community members on the road for yielding to the horse and motorcycles during the chase.
