Police Rescue Ducklings Trapped In Storm Drain In Heartwarming City Operation

Body camera and overhead footage from June 10, 2026 shows Watertown police officers responding to a rescue involving several ducklings trapped inside a storm drain at the intersection of N. 2nd Street and Cole Street.

Officer Geneman lowered himself into the open storm drain filled with murky water, carefully reaching for the trapped ducklings. His tattooed arms and hands are visible as he gently lifted the small yellow-and-black ducklings one by one, passing them up to Officer Poteraske, who assisted from above ground.

The officers worked methodically in the roadside setting, with grass, sidewalks, parked vehicles, and nearby buildings visible in the background. A mother duck remained nearby, pacing anxiously throughout the rescue as the operation continued.

After all the ducklings were retrieved, they were safely reunited with their mother. The duck gathered her brood once more as the officers observed the reunion. The entire family was returned safely to their natural environment.

The ducklings had fallen into the drain earlier that morning, which led to the response at the scene. No injuries were reported during the operation, and the rescue was completed without incident.

The event highlights the coordinated effort and careful handling by the officers during the unusual call, resulting in a safe outcome for the duck family.
