Drone Spots Elderly Wheelchair User Stranded in Busy Median as Reno Officer Walks Him Home

A police drone located an elderly man in a wheelchair sitting in the median of a busy road in Reno, Nevada, and guided officers to him, police said.

The Reno Police Department said officers responded to a welfare check on October 15 near McCarran Boulevard and Sutro Street. An officer operating a drone under the department’s drone-as-first-responder program found the man early and guided officers in.

An officer made sure the man was okay and helped him cross the busy intersection. Although the officer did not speak fluent Spanish, he did his best to understand the man’s needs and make sure he got home safely, the department said.

“Sometimes, a little kindness can make a big difference,” police wrote.
