An off-duty fire captain ran into a burning nail salon in Mission Viejo, California, after an electric vehicle crashed into the shop and caught fire.

Mission Viejo, United States – An off-duty fire captain ran into a burning nail salon in Mission Viejo, California, after an electric vehicle crashed into the shop and caught fire.

Footage released by the Orange County Fire Authority on Wednesday, November 4, shows flames and thick black smoke pouring from a car jammed into a strip-mall storefront, then firefighters stretching hoses from Engine 12 and knocking down the fire as the burnt-out vehicle and charred nail salon come into view.

Off-duty OCFA Fire Captain Chris Chang sprang into action and ran into the salon to make sure everyone was out, the authority said. Engine 12's captain and engineer, who were following an ambulance on another call, diverted to the scene and teamed up with Chang to secure a water supply, deploy hoselines and stop the fire spreading through the building.

The crash was reported around 11:40am in the 24000 block of Alicia Parkway.
