Motorcyclist Arrested After Knocking Down Sheriff’s Deputy And Leaving Passenger Behind
A motorcyclist was arrested after knocking down a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy during a speeding stop on East College Avenue at 10:08 p.m. on September 6, 2026.
Bodycam footage shows the deputy reaching toward a red sportbike carrying two helmeted riders. The motorcycle suddenly accelerated, knocking the deputy to the pavement and sending the passenger off the back.
The passenger, wearing a blue helmet and blue shirt, was left sitting in the roadway as the rider continued away. After noticing the passenger had fallen, the rider circled back into the intersection.
The deputy grabbed the rider when he returned and ordered, “It’s over. Get down.” After a struggle, the rider was taken to the ground and ordered onto his stomach.
Later, the rider was seen handcuffed beside the sheriff’s SUV before being placed in the screened rear compartment.
Thomas Wright, 51, was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer.
