Deputy Spins Wrong-Way Driver Into Wall To End High-Speed Chase On Colorado Interstate

A Douglas County deputy ended a wrong-way chase on Interstate 25 by spinning the speeding SUV into a concrete barrier, according to the sheriff’s office.

Footage released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office shows the early hours of October 13, when deputies were called at about 4:45 a.m. to reports of a driver going the wrong way. The sheriff’s office said the driver sped up to more than 80 mph against traffic when deputies tried to stop him.

The dashcam video shows a deputy racing against oncoming traffic and swerving past a semi-truck before closing in on the white Chevrolet SUV. “Gonna TVI him just north of the pedestrian bridge if I can,” the deputy radios, before clipping the SUV’s rear and sending it spinning into the wall. A second patrol vehicle rams in to pin it in place as officers move in with weapons drawn. “Got him pinned,” the radio says.

The sheriff’s office said the driver was arrested without incident and that he showed signs of possible impairment. According to deputies, he had a suspended license and seven prior DUI or impaired-driving charges, and charges are pending.

“Wrong-way drivers create an immediate and potentially catastrophic danger for everyone on the roadway,” Sheriff Darren Weekly said.
