Car Plunges 100 Feet Into Lake While Trying To Flee Police
A police chase that began in Lake Geneva ended when a vehicle carrying four people drove into Lake Como on August 7.
Just after 11 p.m., officers tried to stop the vehicle near Broad and Wrigley after seeing a passenger hanging out without wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle fled the wrong way down a one-way street, accelerated at high speed and ran numerous traffic signals.
The chase continued into the Town of Geneva before the vehicle entered Lake Como through the boat launch on Schofield Drive. It traveled about 100 feet into the lake.
All four people escaped the vehicle and swam toward a nearby pier, where officers helped them out of the water. Emergency medical services evaluated everyone at the scene. Two people were taken to a hospital for treatment, while two declined further medical care and voluntarily signed off with EMS.
The driver was identified as 18-year-old Cash Rauscher of Delavan. He was charged with three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and vehicle operator fleeing or eluding an officer.
Rauscher made his initial court appearance on August 10, when cash bond was set at $10,000.
