Border Patrol Arrests US Citizen Who Crossed From Mexico Under Highway – 'I Got Frustrated'
San Diego, United States – US Border Patrol agents arrested an American citizen who crossed into the United States from Mexico between official ports of entry near San Diego, California, on October 15.
Body camera footage released by US Customs and Border Protection shows the man sitting under a tree as an agent questions him.
"I jumped off of the highway because I was getting frustrated and I didn't want to keep walking. I saw a highway tunnel and then I decided to go north," the man tells the agent, saying he is from Los Angeles.
"Even if you're a US citizen, you have to present yourself for inspection," the agent replies. "You're detained right now."
Agents from the San Diego Sector encountered the man near Mine Canyon, CBP said. He was given a $5,000 civil penalty and arrested on an active felony warrant.
