Tourist Gets Stuck In Brooklyn Bridge Bike Lane As New Yorkers Push Car Free
A tourist driver became stuck in the protected bike lane on the Brooklyn Bridge during the night of October 1, prompting bystanders, the NYPD and FDNY to help get the car back onto the roadway.
Video filmed by X user NYC Photographer shows a red Toyota wedged in the bike lane at night, with its headlights on and the driver still behind the wheel. People gather around the doors and front of the vehicle before helping move it.
An FDNY truck arrives with its lights on as the effort continues. The car is eventually guided back onto the roadway at a crosswalk. No injuries are shown.
The filmer wrote that the tourist had driven onto the bike lane and got stuck, with New Yorkers, police and firefighters helping remove the vehicle. Eyewitness News reported the same account, describing a wrong turn and bystanders pushing the car free.
A separate clip of the same red Toyota showed a couple being walked out of the lane in reverse. No police statement, summons or names were released.
The Brooklyn Bridge has had a protected roadway bike lane since 2021. On October 1, the city announced work was beginning on a protected connection to the lane along Adams Street and Boerum Place.
