Just after 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2026, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to the Dollar General at 840 Juan Tabo NE after a vehicle crashed into the building.

A maroon SUV was found halfway through the storefront, with shattered glass covering the roof and pavement. The front of the vehicle was inside the store among yellow shopping baskets, snack shelves and a cooler. Garden pots, watering cans and ceramic mushrooms were knocked across a table, while ceiling fixtures hung loose.

Rescue 9 was assigned EMS and made contact with two people inside the structure who were able to get themselves out of the vehicle. Both were evaluated at the scene and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Engine 9 assisted with evacuating the store. Squad 2 and Engine 4 evaluated the structure for any shoring needs.

There was no damage to the structure, although multiple storefront panels were involved. No structural shoring was required.

There were no injuries to customers or workers inside the store.
