School Student Jumps Into Action To Stop Moving Bus After Driver Passes Out
A school student sprang into action when her school bus began moving after the driver suffered a medical emergency, helping prevent a potentially serious crash.
The incident happened on September 18 as students were being dropped off. Surveillance video shows students preparing to leave the bus when it begins moving again. They soon realize the driver is unresponsive.
One student rushed toward the driver’s seat and pressed the foot brake, bringing the bus to a stop. Another student pulled the parking brake and opened the doors, while others helped passengers leave the bus and called for emergency assistance.
The students then checked on the driver and monitored him until first responders arrived. One student used the bus radio to report the emergency, while another called 911.
The Hollidaysburg Area School District praised the students for their quick thinking and courage.
The driver has since recovered and was medically cleared to return to his regular route.
