Norway Fans Turn Boston Escalator Into Viking Row As World Cup Spirit Builds

Video filmed by Jeremy Siegel/GBH News shows a group of Norway national team supporters riding an escalator at South Station while performing a synchronized “Viking Row.”

Dressed in red, white, and blue jerseys, many fans are also wearing Viking helmets with horns or elaborate feathered headpieces and are draped in large Norwegian flags. As the escalator moves upward, they lean and pull their arms in coordinated rowing motions, imitating the action of powering a longship.

The scene unfolds inside the station’s modern glass-and-metal structure under bright daylight. The supporters smile, point, gesture, and chant as they continue the coordinated movement while ascending to the upper level.

Reflections along the escalator’s metallic sides capture the group’s animated performance from multiple angles as they continue their ascent. One supporter is seen mid-action with a bandaged arm among the crowd.

The event takes place in Boston as Norwegian fans travel to attend 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in the region. The “Viking Row” has become part of their playful supporter tradition, highlighting the energetic and creative culture of Norway’s traveling fans.

The scene adds a lively and colorful moment to the build-up around the tournament in the United States.
