Glowing Fireworks Flood Tokyo Bay Sky Above City Towers
Bursts of gold and red fireworks lit up the sky over Tokyo Bay on Saturday, October 24, glowing through thick smoke above the city’s waterfront towers as the Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival made its comeback.
X user onotch filmed the show from high above the bay, with lit apartment blocks in the foreground as bursts of gold and red light flickered through a thick grey blanket, at times flooding the whole sky with a pink glare.
“Please find it attached,” the filmer wrote in a playful caption when sharing the clip that evening.
Roughly 12,000 shells were fired from the water off Harumi Pier during the 90-minute show, which went ahead in the rain after organisers gave the green light that morning. Around 110,000 people bought tickets to watch from venues around the bay.
It was the first time the event had been staged since 2015. Chuo and Minato wards brought it back to celebrate 80 years since their creation and switched it from summer to autumn in the hope of steadier weather.
