Elephant Calf Stuns With Football Skills In World Cup Zoo Enrichment Session

A young elephant calf at Tiergarten Schönbrunn impressed keepers after kicking a football around its enclosure during a World Cup-themed enrichment session.

The nearly one-year-old male elephant took part in a special activity tied to World Cup excitement, where a football was placed inside his habitat.

As soon as the ball was introduced, the calf began actively kicking and pushing it across the ground, showing surprising coordination and strength for its age.

The playful interaction turned into a lively display as the elephant moved the ball around the enclosure with repeated kicks and nudges.

Observers noted the animal’s strong physical build and energetic response throughout the session.

The elephant’s mother also reacted to the activity, with both animals showing interest in the football during the enrichment exercise.

Zoo staff explained that the session was part of their enrichment program aimed at stimulating natural behavior. While they usually rely on materials like branches and logs, the World Cup period inspired the use of a football.

The unusual moment added a sporting twist to the animals’ daily routine and highlighted the calf’s growing confidence and coordination in interacting with objects in its environment.
