Coast Guard Swimmer Descends From Helicopter During Puerto Rico Hoist Training
Mona Island, Puerto Rico – A Coast Guard rescue swimmer descended from a helicopter into the sea during a training exercise near Mona Island.
Footage recorded on Thursday, November 5, shows the swimmer preparing at the open door of an MH-60T Jayhawk as rotor wash churns the water below. A swimmer's-eye view then looks up towards the aircraft and its hoist cable.
The service said the swimmer was assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen. The helicopter's powered rescue hoist is used to raise and lower rescue swimmers, survivors and equipment during search-and-rescue missions and training.
